According to police, on Tuesday around 7 a.m. a police control room call was received regarding a dead body of a woman in a pool of blood at a third floor of a house in the Aruna Nagar following which a police team rushed to the spot.

“The forensic science laboratory and crime teams were also called to the spot and subsequently a case under section 302 (murder) was registered at Civil Lines police station and investigation taken up,” said Sagar Singh Kalsi, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (North).

The roommate, Sapna (36) was questioned by police and later on she also confessed to the killing of Rani.

“Rani and Sapna stayed at the rented house together. Rani used to work at a beauty parlor shop in Gurugram and Sapna worked as waiters/decorator in parties. Sapna is divorced and has one daughter,” said the DCP.

“On Monday night, Sapna, Rani, one Neha (Manisha Chhetri), one Tenzin and 4-5 others had a party till around 1 a.m. at Neha’s place in Aruna Nagar (Majnu Ka Tilla), in which Sapna and Rani had an altercation while consuming liquor,” said the DCP.

“Then Sapna and Rani came back to their rented room and continued drinking. At around 4:30 a.m., they again had a heated exchange and in the scuffle, Sapna stabbed Rani with a kitchen knife on the chest due to provocation over Rani abusing Sapna’s recently deceased father. Rani succumbed to injuries immediately,” said the official.”
